Athens ISD will enter the 2017 season with cutting-edge synthetic turf on historic Bruce Field.
Symmetry Turf was selected as the turf provider and contractor for the project.

The school district was forced to replace the turf field after airborne embers and debris from a
nearby house fire damaged the field, burning it in more than 40 places.

Athens ISD chose to replace the damaged field with Symmetry’s ultra-premium Genesis Turf. Bruce
Field is also home to the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals football team.

“The turf system that the district selected reflects the best the industry has to offer, and includes a
shock absorbing Symmetry Elastic Layer coupled with Symmetry’s blended fiber series of Genesis turf. This
combination provides unparalleled performance, playability and safety,” said Kelly Clark, Sales &
Marketing Director for Symmetry Turf.

The field was replaced on schedule, allowing the Hornets to begin workouts on the new field in
early August.

“Our experience with Symmetry Turf was nothing but positive,” said Athens ISD Athletic Director
and Head Football Coach Paul Essary. “We were on a time crunch and Symmetry went above and
beyond to get the installation completed in a timely manner. The field is beautiful. They really did
an outstanding job.”

The field features logos of both the Athens Hornets and the Trinity Valley Community College
Cardinals.

“It was an honor to be chosen to work with the district on such an important project. Our hearts
and prayers are with the families that were affected by the fire and we hope that our involvement
with this project leaves Athens better than it was when we showed up,” said Kelly Clark, Sales &
Marketing Director for Symmetry Turf.
